OUR RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL REPAIR SERVICES

Complete Electrical Repair Solutions

MCOD provides residential troubleshooting and repair for individual electrical devices, branch circuits, lighting systems, protective equipment, and electrical panels.

Outlet and Switch Repair

We repair or replace loose, damaged, discolored, intermittent, or nonworking outlets and switches. We also troubleshoot reversed polarity, grounding problems, loose connections, and devices that no longer hold plugs securely.

Breaker and Circuit Repair

Our electricians diagnose breakers that trip repeatedly, circuits that lose power, overloaded circuits, short circuits, ground faults, and other problems affecting branch-circuit performance.

Lighting Repair

We troubleshoot indoor and outdoor lighting, recessed lights, switches, dimmers, fixtures, controls, and wiring. The problem may be located at the fixture or somewhere else within the circuit.

Electrical Wiring Repair

Damaged or improperly installed wiring can affect safety and reliability. We locate loose connections, damaged conductors, unsafe splices, and other wiring issues and recommend an appropriate repair.

GFCI and AFCI Repair

GFCI and AFCI protection is designed to respond to specific electrical hazards. We diagnose devices or breakers that will not reset, trip unexpectedly, lose power, or fail testing.

Electrical Panel Repair

We troubleshoot loose connections, damaged breakers, overheating, corrosion, circuit problems, and other conditions inside residential electrical panels. When repair is not appropriate, we explain the available replacement or upgrade options.

Power Loss Diagnosis

Partial power loss can originate inside the home, at the electrical panel, within a branch circuit, or from the utility supply. We inspect the affected system to identify the source and determine the next step.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Repair

We repair or replace hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, damaged wiring, failed interconnections, and devices that chirp, lose power, or do not operate correctly.

Ceiling Fan Repair

We diagnose ceiling fans that wobble, hum, stop working, operate intermittently, lose lighting, or fail to respond to wall or remote controls.

Code Correction Repairs

When previous electrical work contains unsafe connections, missing protection, damaged components, or other deficiencies, MCOD can recommend and complete appropriate corrective work.

frequently asked questions

Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?

A circuit breaker may trip because a circuit is overloaded, an appliance is damaged, wiring has developed a fault, or the breaker itself is failing. Ground faults and short circuits can also cause immediate or repeated trips.

Unplugging devices may help determine whether one appliance is contributing to the problem, but continually resetting the breaker is not a repair. If the breaker trips repeatedly, feels hot, makes noise, or will not remain on, the circuit should be inspected by a qualified electrician.

Why is my electrical outlet warm?

An outlet may become warm because of a loose connection, overloaded circuit, damaged receptacle, improper wiring, or excessive current flowing through the device.

Stop using an outlet that feels hot, smells burned, appears discolored, or makes buzzing or crackling sounds. Do not cover the condition with a new faceplate or continue using an adapter. The outlet and circuit should be inspected to determine why heat is being produced.

What causes part of a house to lose power?

Partial power loss may be caused by a tripped breaker, failed GFCI device, loose neutral connection, damaged circuit, panel problem, utility issue, or loss of one side of the electrical service.

The location and pattern of the outage help determine the likely cause. When several unrelated circuits lose power, lights become unusually bright or dim, or major appliances stop operating correctly, the issue should be evaluated promptly.

How much do residential electrical repairs cost?

Electrical repair costs depend on the type of problem, the time required to locate it, accessibility, materials, system condition, and complexity of the repair.

A simple device replacement may cost less than diagnosing an intermittent wiring or panel problem. Because several issues can produce the same symptom, an accurate price often requires an on-site inspection. MCOD will explain the findings and repair options before proceeding with approved work.

Why does my outlet work only sometimes?

An intermittent outlet may have a loose internal contact, damaged wiring, a failing connection elsewhere on the circuit, or a plug that no longer fits securely.

Intermittent electrical problems can be difficult to locate because they may disappear temporarily. Continuing to use the outlet can allow the connection to deteriorate further, so it should be inspected and repaired.

Are flickering lights dangerous?

A single flickering bulb may be caused by a loose bulb or failing fixture. However, multiple flickering lights, lights that dim when appliances start, or flickering that affects an entire area of the home may point to a loose electrical connection, overloaded circuit, panel issue, or service problem.

Because loose connections can generate heat, persistent flickering should not be ignored. An electrician can test the affected circuit and determine whether the issue is located at the fixture, switch, wiring, panel, or utility connection.

Can a dead electrical outlet be repaired?

Yes. In many cases, a nonworking outlet can be repaired or replaced. However, the outlet itself may not be the actual cause of the problem.

A dead outlet can result from a tripped GFCI device, loose connection, damaged receptacle, failed upstream outlet, tripped breaker, broken wire, or another circuit issue. MCOD traces the circuit and identifies the cause before completing the repair.

Should I repair or replace my electrical panel?

The answer depends on the panel’s condition, age, capacity, manufacturer, and type of damage. A single damaged breaker or minor connection issue may be repairable.

Replacement may be more appropriate when the panel is severely corroded, overheated, physically damaged, undersized, obsolete, or unable to support the home’s electrical demand. MCOD can inspect the panel and explain whether repair, replacement, or a service upgrade is the practical option.

When should I call an electrician immediately?

Call an electrician promptly when you notice burning odors, smoke, sparks, hot outlets, buzzing panels, frequent breaker trips, melting components, electrical shocks, or unexplained partial power loss.

When there is active smoke or fire, leave the area and contact emergency services. Do not touch damaged electrical equipment or equipment exposed to water.

Can I perform my own electrical repair?

Homeowners may be comfortable replacing bulbs or resetting a tripped GFCI device, but electrical troubleshooting and wiring repairs require knowledge of circuits, testing methods, grounding, protective devices, and electrical safety.

Incorrect repairs can create shock, fire, and equipment risks. A professional electrician can identify the actual cause and verify that the repair operates safely.
